Dr. M.E. Yeolekar (MD, MNAMS (Med), FICP ) has assumed as Director of NEIGRIHMS from 13^th August 2009.

He has academic experience / standing of 34 years and has held positions of Reader in Medicine, Professor of Internal Medicine; Chair, Medicine Department at two major teaching Hospitals in Mumbai. Clinical Academic positions finally culminated in Deanship of the LTMG Hospital (2001 - 2007 ) Sion and Dean / Director (Medical Education and Research), of the renowned King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai ( 2007 - 2008 ) He has been member of the Academic Council, University of Bombay and Chairman, Board of Studies in Medicine and Allied Subjects as well as Member of the Senate (Chancellor ‘s Nominee), Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik. He has been Chairman, Ethics Committee, Haffkine Institute, Mumbai. He has been the President of three national bodies – Indian Society of Hypertension (ISH), Indian Society for Atherosclerosis Research (ISAR) and Geriatric Society of India (GSI). He was the Vice Dean of Indian College of Physicians (ICP), the Academic wing of the Association of Physicians of India. He is / was the Office Bearer/Member of 12 Professional Bodies / Associations / societies in the field of medicine, medical education, biomedical and allied health sciences.

            He has been editor / associate editor, editorial board member and member of the Advisory Board of 13 Professional / Scientific Journals. He has to his credit over 120 publications in the areas of Internal Medicine, Intensive Care, Medical Education, Health (planning and policy) and related disciplines and has delivered over 25 orations / key note lectures and guest lectures at local / regional / national / international fora. His contribution to medical academics, specialty of internal medicine with focus on non-communicable diseases as well as emergency medicine care of conditions of infectious / non infectious origin and administration of medical / health care and education have been widely appreciated, acknowledged, and rewarded.

          He intends to strive for extended better clinical care, educational and research activities both applied and operational at the NEIGRIHMS, which is a centre to maintain linkages with Hospitals / Health Institutions of various States/Union Territories of North Eastern Region of the country
