Institute started at the permanent campus only in 2006. The Institute achieved mostly all the objectives as enshrined in the MOA, except for holding Examination and granting such degrees, diplomas and other academic distinction and titles in the Under Graduate , Post Graduate and medical education as may be laid down in accordance with the regulation.

Justification for continuation of the AB (in 5 -10 bullet points, giving specific reasons, highlighting the public purpose that is being served.

The poor health status prevailing in the region is further aggravated by other factors like low literacy rate – especially among women , poor communication facilities, poor mobility and accessibility due to undulating terrain , cultural and linguistic barriers among the tribal population.
The Institute, being the only Central Government Tertiary Care Center in the North East to strengthen the medical facilities and for providing advance and sophisticated medical care within the region.
Therefore it is imperative for the Institute to continue as an Autonomous Body in order to keep on serving the region with regard to providing health care services and generation of qualified man power both tin the Under Graduates and Post Graduate and Post-Doctoral levels. For preventing large number of patients in the Region from seeking medical help and treatment in other Institutions of the country, which involves large financial burden to the State and also to the individuals, considering that 90% of the population cannot avail specialized treatment outside the region.

i. By getting Super Specialist in Super Specialty Departments
ii. By having a Trauma Center with qualified manpower
iii. By having a Regional Cancer Center with State of the Art Equipment and qualified manpower.
iv. Proper road and air connectivity
v. Proper accommodation for attendants of patients coming from other States
vi. Additional incentives and allowances for attracting Faculty
vii. Adequate Accommodation facilities to the faculty and para medical
viii. Setting of a central school for the children of the faculty and staffs.
ix. Increase in training programs for both the faculty and para medical both national and international
x. To create one or two super specialty department for which treatment is not available anywhere in India including AIIMS & PGI Chandigarh, which will also act as an attraction for medical tourism.
