Introduction |
||||||
The department of general surgery has started in the year 2005 with one faculty and one senior resident doctor in the erstwhile IHF at Polo but started surgical facilities since 2006 after shifting to the main hospital campus at Mawdiangdiang. There are two units in the department. Dr Noor Topno and Dr Donkupar Khongwar are in Unit I whereas Dr Ranendra Hajong and Dr Arup Jyoti Baruah are in Unit II. Unit I runs OPD on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Unit II runs OPD on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. |

Infrastructure & Facilities |

The department office, OPD and also the surgical wards are situated in the ground floor of the main hospital building. The male surgical ward has total bed strength of seventeen and the female surgical ward has thirty four beds. The department has Upper GI and Lower GI endoscopy facilities. Laparoscopic surgeries are performed routinely. The department also has the following machines- harmonic scalpel, valleylab, electrocautery , etc. |

Patient care services |

The department runs OPD from Monday till Saturday. Minor surgical facilities are done daily. Major surgical procedures are done on Thursday and Friday alternately by Unit I & II. Emergency surgical facilities are available round the clock. The following surgeries are performed routinely- laparoscopic cholecystectomy and appendicectomy, hernia surgeries for all age groups, MRM, gastrectomies, esophagectomies, colectomies, APR, anterior resection, radical cholecystectomy, Whipple’s pancreaticoduodenectomy, distal pancreatectomy, lateral pancreatico-jejunostomy and pancreatic head coring, hepaticojejunostomy, managing CBD stones, hydatid liver cyst, varicose vein surgery, various amputation, skin grafting, thyroidectomies, perianal fistula, haemorrhoids, etc. |

Academic Activities and Trainings |

The department has postgraduate programme running since 2013 with an annual intake of two students besides teaching BSc Nursing and MBBS students.

Vision of the Department |
||||||
The department intends to start liver transplant surgery facilities in the near future. | ||||||
