Central Library

Introduction:

Library plays an important role in serving the information and educational needs of the users.
The Central Library, NEIGRIHMS is located adjacent to the administrative building.The Central Library is Four Stories Building and caters to a cross section of users ranging from Students to Doctors, Nurses and Paramedical Staff. It has a seating capacity of 200 reader with separate reading place for the Faculty.

Objectives:

• To serve the growing and up to date in formation needs of the users and establish itself as a storehouse of information and knowledge in medical studies with an objective of being a model library in the region and at par with the rest of the country.
• Effort are also being made to computerize the library in order to be able to network itself with other medical libraries in the country so that information and facilitate the process of learning.
• As information is tremendously growing both in size and dimension, providing relevant efficient and effective in formation service to the information seeker and attaining optimum users’ satisfaction is the main and objective of NEIGRIHMS Central library.
• Book in the Library arrange department wise and caters to the needs of different department and also has a general collection of Encyclopedias, Yearbook, Slides and Non-Book materials such as CD-Roms.

Timing:

The Library renain open for 12 hours from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm Monday to Friday and 9:00 am to 1:00 pm 4 hours on Saturday

Library maintains separate section of bound journals and thesis presented by the post graduate students of the institute.

• CD-ROM Search

Central library provides CD-ROM search facility for the Users. The Central library has CDs of books and journals maintained by the concerned staff of the Central library.

Service Provided:

• Quick Reference Service:
• The Library provides reference Service and conducts yearly Orientation Programme for the students. It plays a significant role to serve the faculty members, residents, research fellows, staff and students. The library is engaged in serving its leaders with books, journals, bound journals, newspaper and magazines. The library providesopen access to its users, it also has an internet browsing Area students which is now fully operationalized. A personal reading areas is also proposed to be set up for reading. The staff provided Quick Reference Service to the users at an average of 10-15 queries per day.
• Computer Lab & Internet Services
• The Central Library computer lab with 20 computer terminals, Internet facility is available free of cost to the users during the working hours.
• Circulation Service: At present there are 620 registered members .
• Printing Facilities: Library provides Printing and Photocopying for the users of the Library.
• Reprography Service: At present Library is providing reprography services for all the users of the Library

Activities:

• Holding Of Books Exhibition: The Library organize the Book Exhibition every year. This year from 10th to 12th September 2013
• Users Education And Library Tour: Library conducted Orientation Programme for 1st year BSC Nursing Students on the 19th July 2013

Conference and Workshop:

• The committee for Satellite Centre for Evidence Based Child Health in collaboration with Central Library conducted a workshop on the 4th – 5th November 2013 on “How to practice Evidence based medicine in Child Health”, Librarian Ms. W. Dkhar, Member Secretary has taken up a session on “Introduction to PUBMed Search.
• The Committee for Satellite Centre for Evidence Based Child Health in collaboration with Central Library conducted a short course program on the 30th January – 1st February 2014 on “ How to teach Evidence based Child Health”

Future Plans of The Library:

• Future plan of Central library is to have Wi-Fi Connection available inside the Library for maximum usage of online product such as books and journals
• RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) for security.
• Digitization of Library
