	Introduction
	Cancer refers to a deadly disease in which a tumor is formed in any part of the body. This tumor is the result of an uncontrolled division of cells. Cancer can be potentially cured if it is diagnosed and treated at an early stage. Hence, early detection and management of cancer is of prime importance. Cancer was once considered to be an incurable disease leading to death. Recent advances in the medical field have revolutionized the outlook towards this disease. Medical oncology is that branch of oncology that primarily uses chemotherapy as a medium to treat cancer in patients.Our Medical Oncology department offers comprehensive cancer care, featuring dedicated, skilled, and compassionate doctors, supported by the latest equipments, technology and facilities for outpatient, day care and inpatient cancer patient treatment, prevention, screening, research, and education
	Infrastructure / Facilities
	All types of chemotherapy (NEOADJUVANT, ADJUVANT, PALLIATIVE), Intrathecal chemotherapy, Targeted therapy Immunotherapy. Intravesical chemotherapy Intra pleural chemotherapy Procedure: 1. Bone marrow aspiration, 2. Bone marrow biopsy, 3. Central line insertion, 4. PICC insertion, 5. Lumbar puncture, 6. Intrathecal chemotherapy, 7. Intravesical chemotherapy, 8. Intra pleural chemotherapy
	Services
	1.OPD: Monday to Friday (9 a.m. to 4 p.m) Saturday: 9a.m. to 12 noon. MDT Meeting at 2.p.m. Tuesday and Friday The experts from Medical/ Surgical /Radiation Oncology, along with Pathologists and Radiologists regularly meet to discuss the management aspects of all cases attending the Oncology outpatient departments. 	Academic Activities
	Academic discussion every Wednesday at 2.30 pm Journal Club, jointly with the Pathology department, every first Wednesday of the month at 8 .00 am Classes for medical students as part of integrated teaching program Classes (topics as selected after due discussion with College of Nursing) are conducted for B.Sc. nursing students throughout the academic session

	To set up bone marrow transplantation unit To set up speciality clinic for hematolymphoid malignancy To set up speciality clinic for Esophageal cancer. To set up paediatric oncology unit. To initiate research on cancers with high prevalence in this region.
