The department is housed at 2nd Floor of the Faculty Block (near Director`s Block) temporarily. The objective of the department is to impart undergraduate and postgraduate level training. In addition to that, it also aimed at providing practical job oriented skills to Residents and other medical & paramedical staff. It also aimed at acting as nodal centre of Govt. of India in the field of drugs and drug related studies, research and training Programmes for the state of Meghalaya and other Northeastern states. The department aims at contributing fully towards fulfillment of all the aspects of the multi-pronged Aims and objectives of the Institute. It is also one of the Adverse Drug Reaction Monitoring Centres under Pharmacovigilance Programme of India (PvPI), Government of India.

- There are 2 (two) nos. of student’s laboratories, one laboratory is for Clinical Pharmacy purpose and the other one is Experimental Laboratory.
- There is a museum consisting of separate parts depicting the history of medicine and also the locally available various traditional medicines and medicines of various plant sources. Presently it contains about 100 nos. of specimens including charts, models, photographs/portraits etc.
- The department has modern pharmacology equipments and instruments required for UG and PG teaching and some of the instruments are under the process of procurement for total fulfillment of MCI guidelines.
- Department has a library facility having textbooks and reference books mainly related to the subject of Pharmacology and Pharmaceutics. Some more books are under the process of procurement.
- Department has a demonstration room having capacity to fit 30 – 40 students equipped with modern teaching audiovisual aids and computers.
- It has modern equipments like HPLC and NIBP etc. needed for advance Pharmacological studies and Research including patient care Services
- A Central Animal House facility managed by the department of Pharmacology with rodents and non-rodents being housed for academic purposes.

- The department is presently imparting training to the 2nd year MBBS students both theory and practical.
- The department is also imparting training to the 2nd year B.Sc. Nursing students of the college of Nursing. It takes 2 (two) nos. of theory classes per week by faculty and/or resident doctors of the department.
- The department uses software and audiovisual aids, computer simulation software (CAL) of different animal experiments and animations for teaching purposes.
- The Department is holding monthly seminars on the 2nd Saturdays of every month presented by Resident Doctors and Faculty on various topics of Pharmacology.
- The department is fully equipped to impart Post graduate training in terms of Infrastructure and faculty
- The department also organized sensitization and educational programme for the Nurses of NEIGRIHMS phase wise for a period of 1 (one) month and participated by majority number of Nurses of the Institute

- 4th World Conference on Educational Tecnology Researchs (WCETR-2014), Nov. 28th -29th, 2014 at Barcelona, Spain – Dr. C. Sarkar was the co-author of the paper presents for the poster presentation.
- Dr. Julie B. Wahlang presented oral paper at National Conference IPSCON 2014 at Gauahati Medical College for the 28th – 30th Dec. 2014.
- Dr. D. K. Brahma was selected as Chairperson in one of the oral sessions in IPSCON 2014 for the 28th – 30th Dec. 2014.
- Dr. D. K. Brahma and Dr. Joonmoni Lahon were selected as Organizing Committee executive members and actively involved in organizing IPSCON 2014 on 28th, 29th and 30th December 2014 at Gauhati Medical College.

- The department is not only restricting itself to teaching activities but also engaged in other clinical activities like ADR monitoring and regularly reporting ADRs to the National Pharmacovigilance Centre, Ghaziabad.
- It is engaged with the strategic activities related to provide “Essential Medicines” to the patients of NEIGRIHMS
- Department was entrusted and engaged in monitoring of use of Generic alternatives for branded medicines in NEIGRIHMS to comply with the Government of India directives in this regard
- The department also organized one CME on Pharmacovigilance on 28th June 2014 under the aegis of Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission, Government of India and released one Souvenir to mark the occassion
