The department of Radiology & imaging provides advanced, high-quality diagnostic and interventional radiology services. Using state-of-the-art equipment, we support all of the medical and surgical divisions at the hospital.
X-Ray:
The department has two digital radiography and one computed radiography systems. X-ray of all body parts is performed. There are also 11 mobile units which are used to take x-rays at the bed side.
Ultrasound/ colour Doppler:
The NEIGRIHMS's radiology Department offers ultrasounds service of both inpatients and outpatients. Doppler imaging is carried out for the neck & peripheral arteries & veins as also for the visceral vessels. Ultrasound guided interventional procedures performed in the department include aspiration, biopsies, pseudoaneurysm occlusion etc.
CT scan:
With the state of art CT scanner, the department caters to all types of CT studies such as non contrast & contrast studies of the brain, abdomen and lung. Cardiac CT, MSK CT, coronary CT, CT angiography for the vessels of the brain, abdomen, lung and peripheral arteries can also be performed.
Entire range of CT guided interventional procedures like aspiration / biopsy and therapeutic procedures like CT guided drainage procedures, ablation of tumours, CT guided alcohol injection into vertebral tumours, CT guided laser ablation of osteoid osteoma ( a bone tumour ) etc are performed.
MRI:
We offer a wide range of diagnostic options through MRI, including routine imaging as also advanced imaging protocols. These include Cardiac MRI, MR angiography, diffusion weighted imaging, perfusion weighted imaging, MR spectroscopy, Diffusion tensor imaging, functional MRI, MSK MRI, MRCP, Breast MRI and Prostate MRI
C-arm with digital substraction angiography unit:
The department offers services for a wide variety of vascular and non-vascular interventional procedures. It is one of the best interventional radiology centre of India, serving the people of northeast India (Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram & Sikkim) as well as other part of the country.

The department of Radiology & imaging is committed to offering the highest quality education and training for all of its participants. Ongoing education is provided via three avenues: Classes in radiology and other related topics, Seminars & Conferences that range from clinical conferences, journal clubs and seminars, to annual symposia, and Continuing Medical Education (CME) that serves to continuously develop the knowledge and skills of our medical professionals on an ongoing basis.
The Department of Radiology offers the following academic programme
- MD Radiodiagnosis: NEIGRIHMS's Radiology is very proud of its postgraduate programs, share a profound commitment to teaching and training future generations of radiologists. Currently we are accepting 2 postgraduate resident annually.
- Senior residence: We are accepting senior residents from upcoming qualified radiologist. They have hands on training with close supervision by faculty for different diagnostic and interventiontional fields. Residents are excepted to take active perticipation in all clinical rounds and academic activites.
- Observership: The Department of Radiology, Shillong offers an observership program for qualified physicians, medical students and radiology technologist. Observers will have the opportunity to view a variety of radiologic studies and techniques on which radiologists and clinicians from other disciplines rely for the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Interested participants will be able to observe radiology procedures being performed with state-of-the-art equipment in our Vascular/Interventional Radiology suites. Observers also participate in daily read-outs with the attendings as part of a team.
